Tell us a little bit about yourself, your previous role in Accounts Payable & what the team is responsible for as a whole?

My name is Catriona Innes, I am 26 and currently living in the Leith area of Edinburgh. I graduated from Edinburgh Napier University in 2018 with an 2:1 in Accountancy. I have been working in the Accounts Payable team at Charles Stewart House since January 2019 (2 years 3 months). During this time I have learned how to process invoices, manage supplier databases, process foreign payments and complete the weekly payment runs amongst many other things.

My Accounts Payable colleagues do a fantastic job of ensuring all payments to suppliers are made accurately and on time. They are working exceptionally hard at the moment considering all the difficulties that COVID has brought to the job – I’m going to miss them all so much!!

What will you be doing in your new role in the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine?

I believe initially I will be undertaking a lot of training and development so I can get to grips with the new processes and systems in my new role. Following this some of my main responsibilities will be assisting with the transition to People & Money, data cleansing and financial control – by performing monthly and quarterly reconciliations and assisting with the preparations of management accounts, financial forecasts and financial analysis. Alongside this I will be obtaining my ACCA qualification, of which I have already began studying for.

How will current restrictions impact you starting your new role?

Initially I will be working from home starting my new role therefore training will be based primarily online and through apps such as teams. Although I think it will be slightly harder not having that face to face interaction I’m sure it will all run smoothly and we’ll be back in the office in no time. I’m looking forward to meeting all my new colleagues in a Quiz we have planned on the 1st April.

What do you do when I’m not working at the University?

I love keeping myself busy and active. I enjoy any kind of exercise and outdoor activities such as netball, hiking and running. During COVID I have taken up running as a sport and last year completed my first ever Half Marathon and raised over £350 for charity.

I enjoying playing netball for The Stuart Netball club who compete in the CENA league in Edinburgh. I love socialising with all my friends especially visiting restaurants and bars out in Edinburgh, testing out all the cuisines and cocktails!
