The Finance Department says farewell to Peter Bailey, Research Grants Administrator who will be leaving the University as he has been successful in his application to join Police Scotland. Peter is already a special constable and has now achieved his ambition to join the police force formally, navigating a rigorous selection procedure. Although we’re losing his talent and abilities he’s moving to an important societal role – Peter tells us more… What was your role at the University (including how long he has worked here)? I have worked in the University for two and a half years. I started in the University working in the Cash Office before moving to Research Grants in December 2017, where I’ve been working as a Research Grant Administrator in the SCE section. What made you want to join the police force? Joining the police was always my childhood dream, as I’ve grown up that desire to help people, to keep people safe, and to make a difference to the community has always remained. It’s a job I feel that will always be varied, and at times, challenging, but always rewarding. What has been the best part about working for the University? The best part of working for the University has undoubtedly been the people. It truly has been a joy to work with everyone in Research Grants, both in the section and the schools, and I will miss everyone. Peter has been a really great addition to the team and has worked very diligently and thoroughly on the busy and varied portfolio of grants he inherited when he first joined RGS so he’ll be sorely missed by everyone in the section in addition to all the colleagues he supports at the schools and colleges and the wider finance team at Charles Stewart House. Peter took on many challenges during his time in RGS with a positive, ‘can do’ outlook and was always willing to go the extra mile for the benefit of the team which was very much appreciated. On behalf of everyone I’d like to wish Peter all the best in his new role with Police Scotland. Dax CarrollResearch Administration Manager This article was published on 2024-07-01
