Employees on grades UE01 to UE05 can join the University of Edinburgh Staff Benefits Scheme (SBS). The Staff Benefits Scheme is a defined benefit pension scheme based on career average revalued earnings (CARE). Although the University is responsible for sponsoring the scheme, it is run by a board of trustees.
